Kathy Merrick
Vocalist KATHY MERRICK is an accomplished and vivacious singer, songwriter and artist who has strong roots in the music business. Born in Washington, DC, Kathy started her career at the tender age of eight in dance and musical theater. She attended the prestigious college, Howard University majoring in theater/dance and also performed in local night clubs and concert halls in the area, which included shows with her talented brothers, The Merricks.
She was one of the founding members of the exciting female trio Shades of Lace, which inked a record deal with Wing/Polygram/Mercury records, home of the legendary label mates Vanessa Williams and R&B famed group Toni, Tony, Tony. Their first single landed a top ten hit on the R&B billboard charts. Kathy has been on stages with the likes of the Godfather of Soul James Brown, Boz Skaggs, Johnny Gill, Howard Hewett, James Ingram Christian Castro, television shows BET’s Video Soul, Soul Train, CNN Show Biz Today,to name a few as well as having graced the famed iconic stage of the Apollo Theatre.
She went on to score a second record deal with the Japanese label Nippon Columbia, Ltd. with a trio of American girls called A.S.A.P. They were a Japanese exclusive group. For five years they recorded, performed, did television as a top 10 pop group throughout Japan. She then went on to tour worldwide on many iconic stages globally with the spin off Supremes group, the Sounds of the Supremes led by Kaaren Ragland. Kathy also has had extensive session experience recording for notable artists such as Tom Jones, Boz Scaggs, Dr. Dre, Jim Fuller, and the beatnik, Gruvdisciples, Roy Hay of the Culture Club, Curtis Stigers, Coca-Cola commercials and more. Having worked with the legendary master pianist/producer, Onaje Allan Gumbs a single that was created for Japanese exclusivity years ago was recently released on all music platforms.
She also performed years as a member of the American soul and blues group, Jack Mack, and the Heart Attack Horns, known for their years as the house band of the still popular The Late Show. Kathy is currently a member of the iconic 70’s group the Honey Cone featuring Shelly Clarke White as well as recording projects for solo releases.
